Skiing GREEN

Skiing GREEN

Due to the recent hot topic of climate change, we are going green at Chalet Esprit to do our bit for the environment and Green Skiing.  Resorts are replacing diesel generators on ski-lifts with solar panels and piste-bashers run on bio-degradeable diesel feul and recycling is hot as ever.

Now the responsability is beginning to fall on skiers and snow boarders - here are a few tips on becoming an eco-skier!

  • Consider offsetting your carbon footprint. (Visit Easyjet's website to see such a scheme).
  • Consider a resort that has environmentally friendly practices - Like the Grand Massif!
  • Take a shared transfer from the airport (like with our free airport transfer) or train.
  • If you are staying in a chalet, don't have the heating on full blast and leave the window open. When we clean your rooms daily, we check lights are switched off and that heating is down and windows shut.
  • Recycle any rubbish. We recycle our waste at Chalet Esprit.
  • Don't ski through natural habitats areas. Protected zones are normally marked on piste maps and well signposted on the mountiains.
  • Walk or take the ski bus from your chalet to the slopes - all taken care of with us.
  • Turn off all of your electrical appliances before you hit the slopes for the day, especially charging units for phones, laptops and ipods/stereos.
  • Try to eat local produce and food in season to help reduce food miles. We have tailored our menu to take these factors into account and will be going even greener with a vegetable garden next year.
  • Refill your daily water bottle instead of buying a new one.
