Big Chalet, Massif Skiing & Snowboarding!

Click here to download a pdf of the piste map of the Grand Massif (506k).

The Grand Massif is an awesome ski area rising to 2580 metres at the top of the Grand Platieres cable car. From there with the sun shining, the view of Mont Blanc is quite spectacular and seems astonishingly close. These views from the "roof of the Alps" are truly breathtaking!

  • Rapid access from Morillon to the Grand Massif resorts of Flaine, Samoens, Les Carroz and Sixt, thanks to the many high speed cable cars, modern and high performance 4, 6 and even 8 place chair lifts. In total there are 75 ski lifts, 68 blue runs, 49 red runs, 12 black runs and an extensive off-piste for the more adventurous.
  • 265 kilometres of ski slopes where you can ski from resort to resort without even taking off your skis! A pleasant change from having to take shuttles or walking from one place to another. The resort also has 90 kilometres of prepared cross-country skiing for those of you who don't just want to go straight down the pistes!
  • A whole range of ski runs for skiers of all abilities from beginners through to experts. Whether you choose to ski the "Marvel", a fabulous 5 kilometre long beginners' slope, the "Combe de Gers", a steep black bowl undisputed for great skiing and powder snow with a difference in altitude of 800 metres on north-facing slopes or the picturesque and easy 14 kilometre "La Cascade" piste, the longest blue run in Europe, which runs from the top of Les Grandes Platières 2580 metres in Flaine down to the village of Sixt 700 metres - there is truly something for everyone.
  • A superb snow-sure area, the Grand Massif holds the record as one of the top areas in the French Alps owing to the closeness of the magical Mont Blanc and its many north-facing slopes. Thanks to the latest in artificial snow making equipment (128 snow canons) the resorts remain open from December through to April.
  • Many authentic mountain restaurants on the slopes each with its own unique atmosphere. Many have terraces and log fires, and range from the informal and family-oriented to the more formal and elegant. The standards of service are high in the Grand Massif, but the prices are surprisingly reasonable.
  • Snow Boarding and The Jampark Concept

Snowboarders are well catered for in the Grand Massif with 3 state-of-the-art terrain parks, operating in the 3 separate locations of Morillon, Samoëns and Flaine all with different themes. The most technical location is Flaine, which offers modules of varying difficulties: half pipes, boardercross, big air jumps, tables, rails and quarters. It is open to all snowboarders (and skiers) with a valid lift pass. It has a chalet reception area, sound system and cool zone (offering all the gear you need to take care of your board on a self-service basis). It is a hot spot for all riders and snow-riding fans. Free sessions are organised (events and activities) with barbecues, regular DJs, snow parties and more.

For more information, images, videos and entertainment programmes, check out the fabulously technical Flaine snowpark online at www.jampark.com.

In contrast, the snowpark at Samoëns is for the middle-of-the-range boarder and the snowpark at Morillon is specially designed for children and the kiddies among us! All the snowparks are run by specialist staff who prepare the areas daily.
